Medical Student Temporary Housing Placements for Rotations
For Medical Students:
WCAHEC supports the placement of students from the University of Colorado Health Anschutz Medical Campus and other institutions of higher learning so that rural health professions rotations are successful and seamless. Healthcare students spend up to six weeks with rural health care providers to develop awareness of needs and services in rural areas and are encouraged to practice in rural areas upon completing their health care education. Students who have identified a training site in Western Colorado and need assistance locating housing are encouraged to contact WCAHEC. For Host Homes Opportunities:
WCAHEC recruits host homes in Chaffee, Delta, Eagle, Garfield, Grand, Gunnison, Lake, Mesa, Moffat, Montrose, Pitkin, Rio Blanco, Routt, and Summit Counties. Host homes are paid a nightly stipend from the first night of the student’s rotation until the last, plus one night for travel. Depending on the student’s program, the length of their rotations vary. To become a host home, student’s must be provided a private room of their own in a non-smoking home but that they will share kitchen and may share bathroom facilities with the host &/or a student of the opposite sex. Students are also told that laundry services are on their own (but often times hosts allow their students to use their washer and dryer). In addition, students are told that the rules vary from host to host, and generally they will be expected to clean up after themselves, provide their own bed linens and towels, fix their own meals and provide their own toiletries. Student safety is a primary concern. All hosts and any individual 18 years of age or older residing in the home at any time during a student’s stay have undergone background screening prior to hosting their first student.
