AHEC Scholars is an interdisciplinary program focused on preparing health professions students to serve urban underserved and rural populations. AHEC Scholars is a two-year commitment. (Students in programs one year or shorter may complete a one-year option.) AHEC Scholars commit to a minimum of 40 hours per year of team-based training in a rural or underserved environment (that may be a part of their current required curriculum) and an additional 40 hours per year of didactic education focused on the following topic areas:
• Interprofessional Education (also known as interdisciplinary training)
• Behavioral Health Integration
• Connecting Communities and Supporting Health Professionals
• Virtual Learning and Telehealth
• Social Determinants of Health
• Cultural Competency
• Practice Transformation
• Maternal Morbidity and Mortality
• Opioid and Polysubstance Use Disorder

The program is free to students who are accepted into it, and the Front Range Area Health Education Center has a budget to help AHEC Scholars with things like purchase of scrubs and other supplies. You are eligible to apply if you are studying for one of the following professions:
